Clay Kingdoms was the ArtsSmarts Nova Scotia project at Shelburne Regional High School. Artist Alison Stanton guided the Biology 11 students through the process of creating individual ceramic sculptures representing organisms from different kingdoms (plant, animal, fungi, etc.) that are found in their region's ecosystems. Local fisherman donated their time, and portions of their catch, to bring in specimens for the students to study. |

The completed ceramic works will be mounted as a mural (designed by the students) in the Biology Lab where they will also be useful as a teaching tool. Through this ArtsSmarts project, students were able to demonstrate understanding of the representative anatomy and physiology of organisms from each kingdom, a key outcome of their Biology 11 curriculum. |
